Just eighteen months after killing an innocent pregnant woman in a tragic car chase while investigating a drug ring, Nick Tellis (Jason Patric), a street-smart undercover narcotics cop, is summoned onto the case when another undercover cop is killed in the line of duty. He is partnered up with Harry Oak (Ray Liotta), a very bad tempered, hard-ass lieutenant that is searching for the men that killed his partner and friend. As the story unfolds, Nick, a man that knows too much and has seen too much, must try not to slip into his old patterns as the underworld life he knows tries to lure him back in.
