LAPD detective Mitch Pearson (Robert Dinero) brings a huge lawsuit on his precinct when he accidentally shoots a camera man while on the job. To offset the charges, the police chief orders him to co-star in a cop themed TV show "Showtime" with LAPD officer Trey Sellers (Eddie Murphy). They have many disagreements and do not work well together. Mitch is a hard worker who has little time for excitement and is the opposite of Trey Sellers, who cares more about the glamorous life of being an actor than being part of the squad. Mitch and Trey eventually learn to get along when unforeseen circumstances bond them together.
